Isobutyl xanthate potassium is a highly selective flotation collector for sulfide ores. It is in the form of a light yellow crystalline substance, has a fast dissolution rate, and is mainly used for the priority flotation of multi-metal ores such as copper, lead, and zinc. It is particularly suitable for complex pulp environments and performs exceptionally well in the separation of lead and zinc. It is widely applied.

  • Solubility: Easily soluble in water; soluble in ethanol and acetone. Aqueous solutions are weakly alkaline.
  • Stability: Stable under dry conditions at ambient temperature; highly hygroscopic. Decomposes upon contact with strong acids to release toxic carbon disulfide (CS₂); decomposition is accelerated by high temperatures and high humidity.
  • Density: Approx. 1.10 g/cm³ (at 20°C); Melting Point: Approx. 68–72°C (with decomposition).
  • Characteristics: Its collecting power and selectivity fall between those of n-butyl xanthate and isoamyl xanthate; it exhibits high flotation activity.

Safety, Storage, and Transport

Hazardous Properties

Irritating; highly hygroscopic; releases toxic \(\mathrm{CS_2}\) upon contact with acids; combustible; decomposes at high temperatures to emit sulfurous fumes.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place; protect from moisture, direct sunlight, and fire hazards; keep away from strong acids and oxidizing agents; shelf life: 6 months.

Transport

Classified as a Class 4.2 spontaneously combustible substance (UN 3342); protect from rain and direct sunlight during transport; strictly prohibit mixed transport with acidic materials.

Product advantages

It has better selectivity than ordinary butyl yellow drug, which can reduce the floating of useless minerals; it has strong stability in alkaline pulp and high flotation efficiency; the dosage of the reagent is moderate, and it is not prone to generating excessive foam; the impurity content is low, which will not affect the quality of the concentrate, and it is suitable for the daily ore dressing of small and medium-sized mines.

FAQ

Q1: What's the difference between isobutyl yellow drug and regular butyl yellow drug?

A: Isobutyl yellow drug has better selectivity and is more suitable for multi-metal separation.

Q2: What should be noted when storing?

A: Store in a sealed and dry place, avoid moisture and light, and prevent decomposition due to moisture.

Q3: What are the safety precautions for operation?

A: It is slightly irritating. Wearing gloves and a mask is sufficient for safe use.
